Conversation with Jacob

Jacob: Mommy, I don’t know when Willy’s birthday is and I need to know because he hasn’t had a birthday yet.

Me: Willy is a stuffed animal Jacob, he is not real.

Jacob: Yes, he is. And he needs a birthday so I can show him how much I love him. Did you know that Willy has friends? Their names are Birdy and Sealy. And can you make a cake for Willy and me and Dad can help? And right now, Willy is two, but when he has a birthday he will be three.

This is the second time Jacob has brought up the idea of a birthday for Willy.  And, Willy actually is two, we got him at Sea World on December 30, 2007, so if pressed to come up with a date, I suppose that would be it.  Seeing as how it has passed though, we may have to come up with another.  And what does one get a stuffed whale for his birthday?  Hmm…

  1. Seeing as though you made him a stocking, I think you’re stuck pretending he has a birthday too! So I can’t wait to see your presents and especially your cake for Willy. :)

  2. Continuing the conversation from earlier, Jacob told me (through Willy talking) that Willy wants a cake that looks like him and Jacob standing in front of the house. I’m gonna have to say no to that one… I think Willy will like a store bought cake. :-)

  3. Oh come on, you can do it!

  4. Hey Steph, I definitely saw this one coming. You have outdone yourself in the cake making dept and your son wants to see more cake. So the question is, do you get the store bought cake which probably won’t satisfy near as well, or do you make a cake and run the risk of starting a new tradition ;-) . You could do Willy jumping up to take a herring out of Jacob’s hand or you could go reality and show a baby seal thrashing around.
My vote is the former but the latter might stop any future request. Oh my, do keep us posted. Lol

  5. Hi there!
I clicked on your blog accidentally and this is so funny–just yesterday Madeline asked when Froggy’s birthday is and we couldn’t decide so we just decided to have a birthday party for him. I think I’m going to do it this weekend. Maybe I’ll have the girls make presents for Froggy. How funny!!

So glad to see that Sarah continues to do well. We just went to Seattle for Madeline’s one year check up and she is doing excellent–healing faster than expected and all is good!!! :D
